Matcha is a powdered green tea that is grown and produced in Japan where its leaves are protected from the sun for the last few weeks of their growth period. This boosts the chlorophyll content and helps form it’s intense green color. Once these leaves are finished growing, they are ground to a fine powder that, when whisked with hot water, creates a frothy drink.

What makes this rich drink so special is that you are consuming the entire leaf, which is not common with other types of teas. Because of this, you open yourself open to a crazy amount of health benefits.

For instance, matcha has 137 times more polyphenols than regular green tea. Polyphenols act as an antioxidant and have been found to have cancer fighting properties, prevent cardiovascular disease, and slow the aging process.

Matcha also serves as a detoxifier (due to its high chlorophyll content) and promotes relaxation, mental clarity, and a boosted mood.

In regards to its nutrition facts, matcha is an excellent source of vitamin A, C, E, K and vitamin B-complex.

Today’s matcha involved a simple cup of hot matcha tea and a dash of cinnamon for it’s blood sugar regulating properties.
